Quinta do Noval is an independent viticulture company near Vilarinho de Cotas that produces single quinta port. This is in contrast to many other wine-growing companies in the Douro Valley that supply their grapes to large trading houses in Vila Nova de Gaia to have port produced there. Noval does have a small sales office there.
A quinta is a farm where grapes are grown. Some farms can be compared to a chateau in France. In addition to growing grapes, these companies also make the wine themselves. Noval mainly owns classified A-vineyards where all kinds of possible quality types of port wine are produced. These are sold under the name of the quinta: Quinta Do Noval. The company is a medium-sized port house and sells more than a million bottles of various types and vintages every year.
In addition to port, dry red wine has also been made since 2004.
