Sottano is one of many family businesses in Argentina founded by Italian immigrants. The founder was Don Fioravante Sottano, who left his native land in Veneto in 1890 to settle in Mendoza. He already had a good knowledge of viticulture when he came, and he was one of the pioneers of viticulture in Mendoza, where he was able to make the most of his skills. He planted his own vineyards, set up a wine company and also focused on exports. This was an example for many others in the region.
Mendoza is a special wine region. The vineyards are all situated at altitude, from about 800 meters to well above 1000 meters above sea level. As a result, the days are warm, and it cools down considerably at night. That's a weather type that the grapes love very much. In this way they develop a lot of aromatic power and hold their acids well.
